INAUGURAL CEREMONY OF “MICROCHIP VLSI DESIGN WORKSHOP”

Staff Repoter ::  An inaugural Ceremony of “Microchip VLSI Design Workshop” was held on 11 November, 2019 at United International University Campus. This Workshop organized jointly by Bangladesh Hi-tech Park Authority (Project Authority), Cadence (VLSI Tool Designer), sBIT Inc. Bangladesh (Local Partner of Cadence) and Star Computer Systems Limited (Resource & Education Partner).

VLSI has enormous opportunities for Bangladesh in terms of resource augmentation, doing outsourcing jobs and creating our own electronic design industry for our current and next generation. The Asian region had the highest revenue share as a result of the outsourcing trend. With Semiconductor consumption skyrocketing due to a boom in electronics manufacturing, R&D in electronic design has become imperative in semiconductor value chain. This trend has not only raised the technological sophistication of design services, but has also assured the market of abundant outsourcing projects– especially considering the country’s low labor costs and abundant talent pool. Bangladesh can become the next hot spot outsourcing design and R&D destination if they can live up to the challenges by getting the large talent pool trained in right environment with right training tools and contents in VLSI and semiconductor that will be necessary for any successful IoNT projects. As for the mid and long term goal; sBIT- Star Computer Systems Limited can work with the Government of Bangladesh to bring Multi-national companies to Bangladesh to host them in Hi-Tech Parks to start their R&D centers. This workshop is conducting by Cadence experts from India. Cadence provides latest and greatest technologies, tools/software, services and fab relations to the VLSI industry. Cadence is only company that can provide latest and one stop solutions for VLSI Design Industry.

Honorable Managing Director of HTPA; Hosne Ara Begum attended as the chief guest of the ceremony. Dr. Jahangir Dewan (PhD, MBA), President and CEO, sBIT Bangladesh, Ms. Rezwana Khan, CEO, Star Computer Systems Limited was the special guest of the event. The program was chaired by Mr. A.N.M Safiqul Islam, Project Director of HTPA.Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Hosne Ara Begum, Honorable Managing Director of HTPA said there is no alternative but creating awareness and competence on VLSI Technology in Bangladesh. He said that the public-private sector, industry and academia should work together to achieve such capability. He also mentioned that physical infrastructure has to be constructed.

Mr. A.N.M Safiqul Islam, Project Director of HTPA stated that considering the economic growth & demands the government is ready to provide all kinds of support for this purposeDr. Jahangir Dewan (PhD, MBA), President and CEO, sBIT Bangladesh said that VLSI has massive opportunities for Bangladesh to enhance resource augmentation; finding outsourcing jobs and developing own electronic design industry. He also said I am glad the current government has taken lots of necessary steps to promote the VLSI sector. We as NRBs and RB are joining our hand to develop the VLSI resources and industries in Bangladesh with the government.

Ms. Rezwana Khan, CEO, Star Computer Systems Limited Human resource is the most important factor for developing the industry. VLSI technology is one of the sectors to produce manpower in semiconductor industries for Strengthening skill and knowledge of our ICT Experts, Engineers and Computer Scientist to work on larger, mid-size and small projects, which will add significant contributions to our economy and enhance our ICT export. To achieve the targets we have started with this event for raising the bar of our Industries in Bangladesh.
